Do you have experience in an early childhood education setting? Do you require experience in an education setting? Join us in our mission to make first aid a part of every Western Australian child’s life.  You will have the opportunity to enrich children’s lives and connect with the local community.

Is this you?

  • Are you interested in working with children and can easily relate to them in a classroom setting?
  • Are you over the age of 18 and able to obtain a Working With Children’s Check?
  • Are you friendly with a bubbly personality?
  • Can you easily work solo and also a part of a team?

What the role involves

  • Deliver an energetic and engaging Early Childhood Education Program
  • Read a first aid story book to pre-kindy to pre-primary aged children
  • Represent St John Ambulance in a positive light to the public
  • Ensure Prove First Aid and Early Childhood Education skills are maintained
  • Ensure that the Early Childhood Education program resources are maintained in an appropriate operational condition
  • Visiting schools, childcare and recreation centres
  • Attend a monthly divisional meeting

Qualification required

  • Current Provide First Aid Qualification (St John will provide at no cost)

  • Great communication skills and Presentation Skills

  • Initiative and enthusiasm

Skills you will develop

Being an Early Childhood Education Volunteer you will develop your early childhood education skills by engaging with students in a wide variety of settings. You will also form part of the St John Ambulance network of volunteers and staff.

Recruitment Method

To become a volunteer with St John Ambulance Western Australia, you will be asked to complete an on-line application, including a medical questionnaire and submit a National Police check. The on-line application is available from:

Ongoing training

All our volunteers are provided with the necessary training to enable them to carry out their role. To continue to operate in your role, you must maintain the competencies required and an appropriate level of fitness as roles are physically demanding.


All information concerning our volunteers is treated as strictly confidential at all times.


Your volunteering for St John Ambulance should not cost you anything. We will reimburse all legitimate out of pocket expenses incurred during your time volunteering with us. You should talk to your supervisor to confirm what expenses you can claim.
